Goddess Athena – Be Like a River

Humans are emotional in nature. They have a tendency to react to events in an emotional manner through feelings of anger, worry, fear, frustration, exasperation, envy, impatience, resentment, etc. Those emotions are fine as long as you can keep them in check. The best way to control emotions is to train yourself to think more and feel less, i.e. to become more rational. This does not come naturally, it is a skill that needs to be cultivated.

So, what helps human beings cultivate the art of greater rationality?

I searched for the answer and last night was blessed by a dreamy visit from the Goddess Athena!

Goddess Athena is one of the most influential of all Goddesses; she gave her name to the City of Athens and is the Goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, law, justice, strategic warfare, strength, arts and crafts.

Athena is also the patron Goddess of heroic endeavors; she is the voice that comes to heroes in times of need, instilling in them a calm spirit and giving them the energy to achieve their goals. Under Athena’s influence, man or woman can see the world with perfect clarify and take action just right for the moment.

Q&A with Goddess Athena

Athena’s essence was rationality, her greatest gift to mortals was to enable a human to act with divine wisdom. In my conversation with Athena last night, I asked her:

Author Joanne Reed, “what is your best advice for mortals?

Goddess Athena, “listen to Nature because Nature speaks and you will walk through life in a blissful and joyful state of mind.

Author Joanne Reed, “Goddess Athena, mortals are living more comfortably than ever, but are still living lives of quiet desperation, full of doubt, misery and no sense of direction.”

Be Like a River

Goddess Athena, “Tell your fellow mortals to be like a river. Go with the flow and immerse yourself with nature. Slow down, ramble and go around obstacles. Be thoughtful of those downstream. Remember that beauty is in the journey.”

Goddess Athena, “My last words are to REED Joanne’s book ‘This Is Your Quest’ and keep tuned-in to her blog. I will be talking to her regularly to share more ‘divine wisdom’ to spread more joy and happiness”

Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to listen to Nature, be like a river, pay attention to a Goddess and just do what she says!

I understand! People seem to look at me really squirrel-ly when I tell them about attending the ACME Smart Ass Workshop, a class led by the illustrious instructor Bugs Bunny – Smart Ass Extraordinaire, Esquire! But, what can I say? “The best provision for old age is education.” which means I will be one smart aleck old man!

Love this so much Joanne, I ascribe to all of this and try and practice it (when I have the time) also…strangely enough…my name is actually Athena! although I am not a goddess haha

Hi Athena! Thank you for stopping by and for your comment! So glad to hear you enjoyed this article. Stay tuned-in Goddess Athena promised to impart more wisdom so I will be having another conversation with her soon. I think that deep down all women have a “Goddess Side” to them 😉!

Absolutely loved this post and how inspirational it was!😃🌟🌹

Thank you for your feedback 😀🙏! So glad to hear that you enjoyed the dialogue set-up. I have been living in a big city (Seoul) for a few years but dreaming of a ‘back to nature’ lifestyle. I had another conversation with Goddess Athena last night. Stay tuned-in next installment is coming… to be continued.

Interesting read. I drop a portion of my artist’s bio below, to illustrate why.

Athena is goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill. Athena is also a shrewd companion of heroes and is the goddess of heroic endeavors.

I think this, as a description of a creative life in our modern world, is well suited to our reality. Honest creation, creation from the heart, spirit and mind, no matter what our age or the age of man, requires courage, inspiration, strength, strategy, art, craft and skill. In this time where callous greed, corrupt self-interest and unmitigated contempt for humanity and our home, Earth, appear rampant, pursuing art is a hero’s journey. It is a just battle and we who have undertaken this quest need to cultivate bravery, humility, strength, and whatever help, support, or inspiration the universe presents or provides.

Wonderful advice to listen to nature and be like a river. I learned as a therapist and in my own life that our uncomfortable feelings are often based on irrational thoughts, so if we’re going to think more, observe whether the thoughts are accurate. Words like “always” and “never” are clues that our thoughts might not be accurate. Like the river, we can choose to flow around those irrational thoughts. I love what Athena says about being like a river.
