New Season – Notes From The Side Quest – Episode 1 – View From My Window

There comes a point in life where not every thought belongs in a grand speech or dramatic storytelling. Some thoughts arrive quietly… through a passing conversation, a strange moment in a supermarket queue, a walk in nature, or the view from an office window.

Notes from the Side Quest is a collection of those moments.

These are the observations gathered between the major battles of life, the small philosophies, random reflections, humorous encounters, lessons, contradictions, and human truths discovered along the way. Think of it as the travel journal of a curious mind navigating modern life.

Some entries will be thoughtful. Some will be mischievous. Some may feel like conversations overheard in a tavern before an adventure begins. But all of them share one thing in common: the realization that wisdom rarely arrives with dramatic music. Most of the time, it quietly appears in ordinary places… hidden in plain sight.

And perhaps that is the real Side Quest of life: Learning how to notice.

View From My Window

Sometimes, the greatest lessons arrive quietly. I have a great view from my office window. Most mornings, it is simply part of the background, open fields, changing skies, and the quiet rhythm of countryside life carrying on unnoticed while the modern world rushes past. 

But this morning, something caught my attention. A farmer stood in the distance watering his field with calm focus and quiet consistency. No audience. No applause. No dramatic soundtrack. Just steady, purposeful work.

And somehow, that simple view from my office window said more about discipline, resilience, and success than most motivational speeches ever could.

Back and forth he moved with calm focus, tending the land with the kind of patience modern society rarely celebrates anymore. 

Watching him, I realized something strangely comforting.  At their core, most professions are not as different as we pretend they are.

View From My Window: Different Professions, Same Mindset

A farmer works the soil. A lawyer works the details. A writer works on ideas. A business owner works with uncertainty. Different fields. Same mindset.

The longer I watched that farmer from my office window, the clearer the lesson became. All meaningful work demands the same invisible qualities. Discipline when motivation disappears. Resilience during uncertainty. Consistency when progress feels invisible. Faith that the seeds planted today will eventually grow into something meaningful tomorrow.

Whether you work the land or work the law, the principles remain the same. You prepare. You do the work. You persist. You refine, adjust, or pivot as and when necessary. You trust the process.

The View From My Window Changed The Way I Think About Success

Modern culture loves quick results. But farming does not reward impatience. You cannot rush growth because you feel ready for the harvest. And honestly, neither can life.

Watching that farmer reminded me that most worthwhile things are built slowly: careers, confidence, knowledge, reputation, resilience, and purpose.

In law, cases are built piece by piece. Knowledge compounds quietly. Credibility is earned over years, not weekends. The same truth exists in almost every profession. Consistency creates momentum long before success becomes visible.

Returning to the Legal Field

As I step back into the legal field, this particular view from my window feels symbolic, because starting again in any profession can feel intimidating. You question yourself. You wonder whether the ground is still fertile. You wonder whether your effort will still bear fruit. But experience changes your understanding of work. 

When we are younger, we often chase money and recognition. Later, we are more driven by interest, purpose, and consistency, and we begin to admire the people who simply keep showing up.  The people who quietly water their future before anyone else can see the results.

Wisdom from my Window

The farmer outside my office window probably has no idea he inspired me to write this piece. Yet, his quiet discipline reminded me of something important: purpose is often found in routine rather than intensity.

There is something deeply admirable about people who continue tending their field despite uncertainty, exhaustion, setbacks, or delayed rewards.

And perhaps the real lesson from my window is this: 

Different Field. Same Mindset!
